Members Benita Roberts - Indigenous Researcher My name is Benita Roberts one of the Local Makushi Researcher (MRU) from Guyana, South America. I live in the North Rupununi which is one of the Remote Area in the interior part of Guyana. Here I am show casing one of my skills in weaving hammock one of the sleeping gears or bed that we the Amerindians people use here in Guyana, that was pass on to me by my Mother and would love to pass on to the other young people in my Village especially the women’s group. By teaching them to make this hammock, it would help them to understand the importance of our everyday traditional culture and the lifestyle of the Amerindian people in Guyana. In 2008 I was in Dominica Calinago territory in the Caribbean Island to teach Caribbean how to weave a hammock. I am even happier to be part and parcel of the “Encompass” as it touches on culture which is one of the fields that I am skilled in. This experience will allow me to be among other artists interacting and working with other people in helping to showcase our cultural heritage.
