Kate Young - Musician

Kate Young is a fiddle player, singer and composer from Scotland, and has recently gained a First-Class Honours degree from Newcastle University's BMus Folk and Traditional Music course.

She plays in the world music band, Ethno in Transit who perform a range of folk musics from across the globe, and was also involved in setting up "Ethno Scotland" in 2010 - a week-long camp for musicians to exchange and perform their traditional and folk musics from around the world.

Kate won the "Clews Prize" for her end-of-degree recital performance.

She composes music ranging from folk-style songs to instrumental ensemble work.

Kate is the current winner of the "Alan Hull Award 2009" for Songwriting and Composing.

She continues to learn and explore the different musical and cultural practises of the world, with an interest in environmental and cultural conservation.
