Sam Taylor – Visual Artist (Biog)

Sam Taylor has worked in the arts sector since 2004 when she graduated from Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art, Dundee. She has gone on to gain experience in various arts organisations within North East England alongside developing her practice in sculpture and drawing.

Sam’s interest lies in the re-presenting and re-inventing of materials as her core subject. Using materials for a purpose unrelated to their original intention, she creates ephemeral and changeable structures and drawings. Utilising locally sourced or readily available materials with a hands-on tactile approach is very important to her work.

Sam is currently developing a project with fellow rednile artist Suzanne Hutton entitled ‘Transporter’ which focuses on the transportation of art skills, crafts and cultural traditions and heritage across countries with a focus on sustainability within the arts (both economically and environmentally). It aims to highlight the idea of sustainable arts practise, looking at people’s relationship to their environment, cultural heritage and the value of traditional craft and skills.
